This country house / holiday home dominates the foothills of a hill in the prefecture of Chania, in the area of Topolia. The building is located on a single plot, next to a house, made entirely of stone, with a pitched roof.
The design objective was to create a building that will harmonize with the environment and at the same time will have common elements with the existing nearby residence, while it will be able to accommodate 3-5 people throughout the year.
The exterior space is organized in two levels to take up the slope of the terrain. On the first level, the dining area is formed, while on the second lower level, the pool area is designed, facing the sea and the settlement.
The facades of this holiday home in Chania were designed following the idea of external separation of the day and night areas, with the differentiation of materials. Furthermore, wooden canopies were chosen, which are to frame the main entrance of the residence, as well as the first-floor terrace.
In the interior, the design decisions are framed by the concept of traditional style, which is also emphasized by the simple furniture lines. The day rooms are located on the ground floor in direct relation to the outside, while the night rooms maintain the required privacy and are located on the first floor.
Inert materials such as wood, stone and cement mortar are chosen to underline the compositional objectives of this house such as the dialogue with the landscape, the simplicity of forms and the juxtaposition of the modern and the traditional aesthetics.
