Chorafakia is a small village located in Akrotiri peninsula 11 km far away from Chania and 7 from the airport. The nearest beach, located about 3-5 minutes walk, is Kalathas, a sandy beach enclosed in a bay with a small island in front. Other beaches close to Chorafakia are those of Tersanas and Macherida located approximately 1 and 2 km respectively. Chorafakia is also a good starting point to organize visits to the monasteries present on the peninsula such as those of Agia Triada, Gouverneto and Katholiko but also to spend free time on the beach of Stavros where the film Zorba the Greek was filmed. In the village there are traditional taverns, bars and a supermarket.
