Georgioupoli is a village located at the foot of the Apokoronas peninsula, about 40 km from Chania and 22 from Rethymno. From Georgioupoli begins a coastline with a sandy beach almost 9 km long. Formerly it was a fishing village but over time it has developed in tourism and today offers all the essential services such as bars, restaurants, two atm points, pharmacies, bakers and more. Many naturalistic or cultural excursions can be done starting from Georgioupoli such as a visit to Lake Kournas, the Roman-era village of Argiroupoli Lappa, the village of Vamos in the Apokoronas peninsula, the village of Vrysses. The town is connected by bus to Chania, Rethymno and Heraklion.
